Profile

Zeenat Rehana was a luminous voice in Bangladeshi music - an artist whose golden timbre, storytelling prowess, and cultural heritage secured her a special place in hearts both at home and abroad. Born into a creative and cultural family, with her mother Zeb-un-Nessa Jamal celebrated as one of Bangladesh's finest lyricists, Zeenat was destined for artistry. She began enchanting audiences in 1964 as a Special Grade vocalist for Bangladesh Betar (formerly Radio Pakistan), followed by her television debut a year later.

Her breakout arrived in 1968 with the beloved classic "Shagorer Teer Theke", a haunting, emotionally rich melody that instantly became a national treasure. Though she later pursued an influential career in international development serving organizations like UNDP and CARE, her musical spirit remained a constant, weaving through many evergreen ballads, nostalgic gems from the 1970s and 1980s, and uplifting children's songs written by her famed mother.

Over a career spanning more than six decades, Zeenat Rehana became more than a singer, she was a cultural bridge, blending lyrical sensitivity, social purpose, and melodic charm into a singular artistic journey.
